Danielle Groleau, PhD

ÌýDr Groleau is Professor and Associate Director of graduate studies in the department of psychiatry where she is also part of the division of social and transcultural psychiatry. She is also senior investigator at the psychosocial axis- Lady Davis Institute for Medical research - Jewish General Hospital. Dr Groleau is a medical anthropologist and received her PhD in Public Health from the Université de Montréal and completed a postdoctoral degree in Transcultural Psychiatry at Â鶹Çø. She specializes in the development of qualitative methods applied to evaluation research and determinants of sexual and reproductive health that have implications for human rights, public health programming and policy. Her current research interests are:

  • Illness meaning and experience of perinatal depression, medicalization of female genital mutilation (FGM/C), obstetric fistula, breastfeeding,
  • evaluation of health policy, programs and health services using qualitative and mix-methods

Dr Groleau can supervise postdoctoral fellows and graduate students from psychiatry, family medicine, social sciences, humanities, public health and medicine.
