You鈥檝e been accepted into Work Study! Now what?

Applying for jobs

  1. Job postings will be posted on . Each posting indicates聽the number of hours of work per week, the rate of pay, a short job description and the skills required. Work Study positions are located on campus or in surrounding facilities and are designed to fit around your academic schedule. Watch the video "How to search for and apply to jobs with myFuture" for more details.
  2. To apply for positions that interest you, contact the individual listed in the job posting. Be prepared to provide information about your work experience at the interview; a current resume makes a good impression!
  3. Provide the prospective employer with a copy of your Work Study Confirmation letter. The letter will be available in Minerva as of the decision date of your application and will include the approved start and end dates for each applicable term.聽It will be valid for 30 days with the ability to reproduce as needed.

Getting hired

Congratulations! The employer has decided that you are the right candidate for the job.

Here鈥檚 what you need to do:

  1. You and your employer should decide together on a work schedule that you can maintain during your studies鈥攎ore than 15 hours of work per week is not recommended for full-time students.
  2. Familiarize yourself with WorkDay procedures as you will be responsible for submitting your timesheets through the WorkDay system.
  3. Make sure you know your rights and responsibilities (see below).

Rights and responsibilities

YOU are responsible for:

  • Ensuring that you have been approved for participation in the Work Study聽program聽before attending a job interview for a Work Study position
  • Providing your Work Study Confirmation Letter to your prospective employer
  • Maintaining satisfactory academic standing
  • Maintaining full-time status in a degree program
  • Obtaining a Canadian Social Insurance Number

International students should refer to the聽International Student Services website for important information on work opportunities, SIN cards, employment contracts, etc.

Your Work Study authorization will be rescinded if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements for Work Study during the academic year (i.e., you drop to part-time status, withdraw from the University, or finish your degree program).

Know your rights

麻豆区 student casual employees (including those in Work Study jobs) must become members of one of the unions at 麻豆区.

You will fall under one of the following collective agreements:

You should read the relevant agreement to understand your employment conditions including salary structure and rates of pay.

Exception: employees of 麻豆区's affiliated partners who are not paid by the university's payroll system are not 麻豆区 union members. See for minimum wage rates.

YOUR EMPLOYER is responsible for:

  • Following all HR employment procedures
  • Ensuring you are suitably trained and supervised
  • Ensuring you are paid every two weeks
  • Adhering to the employment conditions of the appropriate collective agreement
