Douglas and Doreen Jose Student Experience Enhancement Award

“Enhancing aspirations and augmenting career development”

Doug Jose smilingEstablished in 2022 through a generous gift from Macdonald alumni Douglas Jose, BScAgr’66, and the late Doreen Jose, BSc(HEc)’68, to provide funding for experiential learning initiatives.

“When I was an undergraduate, Macdonald provided students the opportunity to pursue our creative skills and interests in a wide variety of activities. The Student Experience Enhancement Fund encourages students to exploit their creative ideas to augment their formal education. A more enlightened formal education will lead to a more satisfying career. Macdonald was an inspiring community for me. My wish is to help future graduates achieve that feeling and enter a professional career with confidence”.

Details

It takes a community to raise a productive graduate. Formal classroom instruction does not provide all the skills and knowledge beneficial to have a creative, satisfying career and be a productive member of society.

The Douglas and Doreen Jose Student Experience Enhancement Award was established to provide funding for experiential learning initiatives. These active and varied learning opportunities will foster the acquisition of knowledge, skills and insights to supplement traditional classroom experiences. It extends opportunities to act on creative ideas and aspirations and to generate experiences that will assist in career development.

The projects or initiatives funded by the award may include, but are not limited to, organizing and completing non-credit internships, conducting independent research, volunteering related to the applicant’s academic background, pursuing formal activities related to professional career development, organizing academic related conferences where students will make significant presentations, inviting speakers to campus, conducting workshops to augment academic instruction or to assist in the preparation for a professional career, organizing intercollegiate activities or student competitions.

Funded projects must foster experiences beyond the classroom and must focus on the experience rather than materials. Expenditures can include supporting supplies and documents.

Both individual students and groups of students are eligible for this award.
