JWST 220D2 – 002 Introductory Hebrew

Language acquisition - introductory Hebrew.

January 6 – April 11, 2025: Monday & Wednesday (16:05 – 17:25)ÌýLEA 721

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education: Advanced academic degree, preferably a PhD, from an Israeli university.

Experience: Extensive experience teaching Hebrew. Some experience of teaching at the academic level is a plus.

JWST 320D2 - Intermediate Hebrew

This course is designed to integrate students at various levels into one group with the aim of improving their basic language skills and preparing them for advanced Hebrew.

January 6 – April 11, 2025: Monday & Wednesday (13:05 – 14:25 pm) Leacock 617

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education: Advanced academic degree, preferably a PhD, from an Israeli university

Experience: Extensive experience teaching Hebrew. Some experience of teaching at the academic level is a plus.

JWST 330 – Topics in the Hebrew Bible

A selected topic of current interest in the Hebrew Bible will be studied in depth. Emphasis on the contributions of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (archaeology, comparative literature, and Semitic linguistics) to understanding the text. Students may read the text in Hebrew or in translation.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education: PhD in Biblical Studies/ History of Interpretation of the Tana"ch.

Experience: Experience in teaching the Hebrew Bible at a high academic level; ability to teach basic survey courses as well as focused courses on a variety of books of the Bible.

JWST 351 – Studies in Modern Jewish Literature

Within a comparative framework, this course examines cultural, thematic and artistic developments in the works of modern Jewish literature written in both Jewish and non-Jewish languages. For those without reading knowledge of the original, all works are available in English translation.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education: Advanced academic degree in literary analysis with expertise in Jewish Studies.

Experience: Expertise in teaching literary analysis at the highest academic levels; familiarity with English and Jewish literature history.

JWST 376 – Topics in Jewish Music 1

A study of one style, historical period, or geographical location of Jewish musical expression

Experience: Extensive experience in teaching Jewish music at the academic level.
