“My class appreciated the teachers who passed on their knowledge and experiences,” said Dr. Gordon Crelinsten, President of the Class of Medicine 1970. “The goal of this gift is to strengthen this legacy of learning with effective and innovative teaching methods.”
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The MDCM program’s Graduating Class of 1970 created this award in order to support a member of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who wishes to acquire and/or further develop capabilities that can be applied directly to the education of medical students and/or residents at 鶹. The aim is to foster excellence through the application and dissemination of innovative and effective educational methods. The focus may be on teaching methods applicable to classrooms, simulations or clinical settings, provided they have the potential to enhance the medical school experience.
For the 2024-2025 cycle a budget of $6,000 to $10,000 will be available.
The support can be applied to personal professional development (e.g. registration fee for skills-building workshops, travel and tuition for specialized training) or for a ‘mini-sabbatical’ (e.g. to secure protected time from clinical responsibilities). The award may also be used to support the training of an outstanding young individual, such as a junior faculty member, who has demonstrated a particular interest and aptitude in educational practices.

- A copy of your CV
- A description (max. 2 pages) of your interests and experiences in medical education, with a focus on plans for the professional development you would like to pursue, how it is aligned with the promotion of excellence in the education of medical students and/or residents at 鶹 and a description of your plan for its implementation at 鶹
- A letter from your department chair, division or school director or similar academic supervisor providing information on how they see the impact of this proposal with respect to where the new knowledge and skills will be applied and how it may benefit your career
- A proposed budget
The application should be single-spaced with a standard 1-inch margin and in a 12-point font.
The selection criteria for this award include: clarity of the proposal; the applicant’s commitment to excellence in educational practices and/or scholarship; appropriateness of the budget, and; where applicable, relevance, feasability and potential impact of the proposed educational innovation.
At the end of the year, the awardee will be expected to provide a one-page summary of what they were able to achieve as a result of this award. They will be expected to acknowledge the Class Gift of ’70 in any report and/or publication.
