Oral PhD defense for Shashika Bandara
Shashika Bandara, a PhD candidate at the Department of Family Medicine, will be presenting his Oral PhD defense. His research broadly focuses on global health policy and governance.
Topic: The implementation of the global health treaty, the World Health Organization Framework Convention of Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) in the African region.

Shashika Bandara
Shashika aimed to use this doctoral dissertation to strengthen the implementation of the WHO FCTC with a focus on tobacco supply reduction. In his dissertation, Shashika focuses on understanding how academic research on WHO FCTC implementation in the African region consider context, examining the political economy of tobacco in Zimbabwe 鈥� the highest tobacco producer in the African region, and examining policy pathways for tobacco supply reduction in the African region.
