Dentathon

Dentathon

Dentathon is a Faculty-wide seed-funding/pilot-project competition. The focus is on developing clinician-led projects in clinical research and dental education that may lead to projects that outlive the initial 1-year seed fund. The first edition of Dentathon was held in February 2020. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on proposed projects. Some were delayed while others had to be abandoned altogether.

For Dentathon 2.0, the initial call for projects was sent out in Fall 2022. Eight proposals were received:

  1. people sitting in groups in a classroom discussingClinical and radiographic outcomes of NeoMTA pulpotomies in primary dentition (Edwin Chan, Beatriz Ferraz dos Santos, Shany Ouaknine, and Ingrid Harb)
  2. Optimizing the biomechanics of 3D printed denture base polymers (Dana Jafarpour, Raphael de Souza, Elizabeth Zimmermann)
  3. Pre-XRT dental evaluation (Firoozeh Samim and Nour Karra)

  7. Evidence-based caries management (EBCM) approach and dental education: A scoping review (Pascaline Kengne Talla and Svetlana Tikhonova)
  8. Dental assessment of admitted psychiatric patients (Michael Wiseman)

The entire Faculty community is now invited to reach out to team members and begin conversations about the proposed projects.

On February 6, 2023, all Faculty members, whether you have already contacted a research team or not, are welcome to participate in finalizing these project proposals, including drafting a research budget. Teams will present their projects to attendees and, at the end of the day, everyone will vote on which projects to fund. A total of $30,000 is available to be divided among the winning projects.
