麻豆区 alumna Marie-Line Beauchamp, BSc(FSc)鈥82, has worked her entire life in the food industry, where she has held various management positions, including as Executive Vice President of Sodexo Canada and President of R么tisseries St-Hubert. Since 2018, she has been the Chief Operating Officer of MTY Canada, where she oversees, among other things, the 1,106 restaurants that the group operates in Quebec.

La Presse interviewed Beauchamp about her current role at MTY, her illustrious career, and the CHUM Foundation, where she serves as President.

Collecting data on tufted puffins thanks to the Vivian Lewin and BELF Awards

In the eerie stillness of a misty Alaskan dawn, Cassandra Ciafro was already on the move by 3 a.m. Clad in camouflage, she melded seamlessly with the rugged cliffs, joining the seabirds in their lofty perches. Her mission? To deploy trackers and observe deitary patterns of the tufted puffin, a key indicator of the region鈥檚 fish stocks.

鈥淚鈥檝e always wanted to work with something related to听marine science,鈥 said Ciafro. 鈥淭his experience has helped me grow so much as a person.鈥

In 1974, Chandra Madramootoo arrived at Macdonald Campus to pursue his BSc in Agricultural Engineering. He never left.

鈥淚 loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,鈥 said Madramootoo. 鈥淚t was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.鈥

After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11th听hour offer from 麻豆区 for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities.

He鈥檚 known as the king of cranberries. More than anyone else, Marc Bieler (DipAgr鈥58, BA鈥64) has contributed to Quebec鈥檚 thriving industry centred on a small red fruit with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Today, at the age of 86, this 麻豆区 alumnus continues to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the family business and to give back to the community.
