Urban greening as a determinant of health and a strategy to tackle the triple planetary crisis (Pierre Paul Audate, Université de Montréal)
Abstract: There is an increasing interest for urban greening as intervention to improve health and well-being in cities worldwide. The following presentation will explore the role of urban greening as a determinant of health, addressing its contributions to mental and physical health, and its potential to promote social cohesion. In addition, it will present how urban greening can serve as an intervention to mitigate the triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution—by reducing vulnerabilities to climate events, providing ecosystem services, and reducing environmental inequalities. This presentation will also advocate for better integration of urban greening into public health and public policies to create healthier and more sustainable cities.
