The Rewards of Recognition

The Mental Health Commission of Canada is raising awareness around the 13 psychosocial factors that can impact the mental health of employees in the workplace. Did you know that “Recognition and Reward” is one of the 13 psychosocial factors? Giving recognition helps to create a Healthy Workplace around us!

Have you ever thought about how receiving recognition makes you feel? What about the type of recognition you enjoy receiving? Public or Private? Verbal or Written? There are many factors that influence the form of recognition you prefer to receive: past experiences, personality, the generation in which you were born, etc.

Have you ever stopped to think about how you give recognition? Do you customize it to the recipient? Do you give it often enough? Do you give it in a timely manner?
