As part of 麻豆区's bicentennial celebration, 麻豆区 Global Health Programs, the 麻豆区 Global Health Perspectives Blog and the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting present:
Communicating Global Health Research and Countering Misinformation
This event will be a panel of diverse and influential writers in global health from the US, India and South Africa speaking on challenges and opportunities in communicating global health research and advocacy to the public. The session will focus on a) how the writers got inspired and why they write b) the challenges they have faced as science communicators c) advice on how to write (or use other mediums) effectively to the public.
Speakers:
- Amy Maxmen, Senior Reporter, Nature: Amy is an award-winning science writer who covers the entanglements of evolution, medicine, science policy and of the people behind research. Her stories appear in Wired, National Geographic and The New York Times, among other outlets. She鈥檚 currently based in California as a senior reporter at Nature. Amy completed her doctoral degree in evolutionary biology at Harvard University.
- Sandhya Ramesh, Senior Editor (Science), ThePrint India: Sandhya writes about science and technology, with a focus on research, lifestyle, and society in India. Her work has appeared in The Wire (India), Mint, Digit Magazine, The News Minute and others. Sandhya holds a bachelor of engineering from Nagpur University in India and a master鈥檚 in science from NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
- Laura L贸pez Gonz谩lez, Independent Journalist: Laura is an award-winning independent health and science writer and editor based in Johannesburg, South Africa, reporting to venues such as Al-Jazeera, Devex, VICE and others. Over the course of 15 years, she has headed up the news desks of half of South Africa鈥檚 specialist health reporting outlets. L贸pez holds a bachelors from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a Masters from the University of Chicago.
