Professor Sonenberg is the recipient of several distinguished awards and prizes including, theRobert L. Noble Prize of the National Cancer Institute of Canada, theKilliam Prize for Health Sciences, the Gairdner Foundation International Award, and the Wolf Prize in Medicine, among many others. Additionally, in 2006,Professor Sonenbergwas elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society and, in 2010, he was appointed the title ofOfficer of the Order of Canada.

Research Interests

  • identification and characterization of the various translation factors involved in translation initiation
  • elucidation of the signaling pathways impinging upon translation
  • discovery of physiological consequences of translational control

The laboratory makes use of the latest techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry, and has access to various resources available through affiliations with Montreal-based hospitals and institutes including the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the Montreal Children's Hospital, and the Biotechnology Research Institute including the MUHC, the Douglas Institute, Concordia University, University of Montreal, and the Institut Armand-Frappier.
